Sundays have always been a special day for me. Growing up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon), I genuinely loved learning about God. Like many people, the past few years, I’ve disentangled my beliefs around Jesus and history and policy and tradition and belief systems… and found the experience completely destabilizing.
In the faith deconstruction space, I was often searching for someone who could challenge dogma, question tradition, grieve beliefs and still hold deep love and commitment to Deity. I often read of people coming from being all-in on religion to believing in nothing at all. I honor their experience and understand why they would be disenchanted by God as a whole, but that has not been my journey. In more ways than one, my entire view of God has completely shifted in meaningful, important ways. I’d like to hold space for others who find themselves wondering: What do I do with all of this hope?
So here we are — navigating high-demand religion without giving up on God. I am here to write about the experience of changing your mind… and changing your mind again! I hope together we can praise, explore, get curious, grow, love, grieve, grapple with and enjoy the spiritual life.
I’m Kimber Young Poon, a teacher, eater, believer, dreamer… and many other ‘ers I’m still learning about.
I have enjoyed reading and writing since I can remember, but I have commitment issues. I have dozens of half-filled notebooks, hundreds of half-written notes on my Notes app, a handful of blog posts, and scribbled poems on post-it notes on my nightstand. So I’ve turned to Substack to keep them all in one place. I usually end up writing about relationships, life, womanhood, and God.
Thank you for being here :)
