March is my favorite month. Yes, it’s my birthday month (you can read my yearly reflection here!), but it’s also the transition from winter to spring. One day I woke up, and little green sprouts were peeping out through the cracks in our sidewalk. The birds are back in the trees, the squirrels are prancing around our backyard, and as the world starts to come alive again, I feel like I am coming alive again, too!
DID:
March was a very busy month full of doing my favorite things, as any birthday month should be! Here are some special moments:
Re-discovered shrinky dinks (magic!)
Hiked in Zion’s National Park with a friend who had never seen red rock mountains or snow (we saw a lot of both!)
Visited an art museum by myself :)
Crafted with friends
Repainted & redecorated our guest bedroom
Worked at a special needs school
Visited East High and saw all of the iconic High School Musical spots
Started writing poetry again after a long time of poetry-writing-block (you can read one of the poems I wrote here!)
Turned 29
Got accepted into my dream master’s program… and turned it down
Contemplated my life path — some big changes are in the works!
SAW:
This is very random, but I accidentally dropped a heavy glass vase, and when I swept it up, it turned into a fish!
HEAR:
I am a longtime lover of Regina Spektor. Her music feels like art. I realized recently that I have never listened to an interview with her before. That changed this month! As I painted our guest bedroom, I listened to this interview, and it had a profound impact on me.
I love that Regina talks about being made to do what you are meant to do. She wanted to be a classical pianist, but her hands were too small! She couldn’t focus long enough to learn the long, complicated pieces. But her classical background and day-dreamy nature made the most perfect combination for the kind of music she creates today — music only she can make.
This interview is special because she is now a mother, and she talked about how her creative process has actually improved since becoming a mother, which I was very intrigued by! As I dip my toes into beginning the path to motherhood, hearing words like this from women I admire is very meaningful to me. Give it a listen!
DRAW:
I am gearing up to paint a mural in my best friend’s nursery! I’m still in the conceptualizing and planning phase, but we are both so excited with how it will turn out! We want to tap into her colorful and vibrant Mexican culture, Frida Kahlo style!
Here is my rough draft:
Til Sunday,
So fun to hear about the things you’ve been doing. I watched the video you shared. I loved hearing how her focus and creativity output increased after having her child. Having children deepened and broadened my understanding of life and caused me to discover passions and interests I don’t think I would have otherwise found. Being a mother has blessed my life in so many ways. Also loved your photo of the glass fish?â‰
Interesting and upbeat post! Loved the photos, too! Can't wait to see the finished guest room .you are painting! You are definitely a girl of MANY talents!
